First debate during the screening of the Youtube series on FGM

In collaboration with the Ministry of Women and youth influencers, UNFPA organized a cinema preview of the sitcom against FGM broadcasted on Youtube last month with EU funding. The event organized in a cinema hall brought together more than 70 young people as well as the participation of officials including the Resident Coordinator UN, the Chargé d'Affaires of the European Union Delegation and UNICEF Representative.

The post-viewing session of the emblematic episodes of the series sparked a lively debate among young people on the persistence of FGM and in particular the rejection of this practice by Islam and the tireless advocacy of religious leaders for the abandonment of FGM. It was commonly recommended to the office to pursue this kind of initiative which is a first in Djibouti to ensure increased visibility of mass awareness on social networks and maximize positive messages on accelerating the abandonment of FGM.
