Up to 26 June 2021, the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Djibouti reported officially 11,600 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country including 155 related deaths.
Up to 26 June 2021, the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Djibouti reported officially 11,600 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country including 155 related deaths. The case fatality rate stayed stable at 1.3%. The epidemiological situation of COVID-19 in Djibouti during the month of June 2021 continue to be stable with sporadic cases detected in the country, the same situation as during the month of May. COVID-19 cases in Djibouti are hitting a plateau starting from the epidemiological week 23 up to epi week 25 (from 6 to 26 June 2021) with 44 new cases (almost 15 cases every week) reported during this period compared to 2,612 and 433 cases reported during the months of April and May 2021, respectively. There was also a decline in the fatality rate with one death reported during the same period (epi weeks 23 to 25/ 2021) compared to 9 deaths reported during epi weeks 18 to 21/ 2021. The positivity rate returned back to its normal range in Djibouti (0 to 1%) during the epi weeks 23-25 /2021 (6 to 26 June 2021).
The Djiboutian government is vigilant to the progress of the pandemic globally especially the new variants circulating in many neighboring countries. Restrictions regarding the travel from and to some countries including India, Brazil and South Africa has been taken on the last week of April 2021. On 20 June 2021, a presidential decree came out announcing that vaccination against COVID-19 (at least one dose) is mandatory to be able allowed to travel in/out of the country. Up to 26 June 2021, 22,791 persons have been vaccinated in the country representing 2.3% of the population.
